We don’t like to pat ourselves on the back, so we won’t.  Instead, we’d like to give everyone who supported us during the first-ever Long Beach Gives, held on 9-19-19, a high-five and BIG THANK YOU for helping us raise nearly $18,000 during this citywide day of giving.  More than 70 non-profit organizations participated in Long Beach Gives collectively raising $822,605.69 from 3772 donors who made a difference in the health, welfare, culture and education for those living within the city of Long Beach – four-legged and furry residents included!  The original goal, set by the organizers, was an ambitious $350,000. It was quickly increased to $750,000, more than doubling the original target, after receiving an overwhelming response from the community. And, of course, that number was exceeded by nearly $75,000. We’d like to thank Steel Magnolias member Beverly Enwold who brought this project to our board of directors and invested $5,000 of her own money as part of a challenge grant.  The money we raised will go to support our main recipient, The Stramksi Children’s Developmental Center at Millers Children’s and Women’s Hospital. As a final note, when the clock ran out and the 24-hour marathon of giving had ended, Steel Magnolias, with its all-volunteer roster of 50 members, was in 8th place (out of more than 70 participating non-profit agencies). We’ll take it!  Again, thank you for supporting us during Long Beach Gives. Until next year…
